Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese Language (3-Year Position)January 11, 2021DescriptionEarlham College invites applications for a three-year position in the Department of Languages and Cultures atthe rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese Language and Linguistics, beginning August 2021. Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will typically teach three courses per semester: two Japanese language courses and one linguistics course or a course in the area of his/her specialization or interest. The candidate should also expect to collaborate with the programs of Japanese Studies and Comparative Language and Linguistics.Experience & QualificationsThe candidate must hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment, demonstrate highly successful skills in teaching Japanese at all levels, and specialize in language teaching, linguistics, or related fields with native or near native competency in Japanese and English. It is possible that a candidate who is ABD will be considered.A strong commitment to teaching Japanese to undergraduates is essential. Our faculty often provide advice and leadership aimed at improving the quality of life and are involved with educational, environmental, social service, cultural and governmental organizations in Wayne County. In addition, faculty engage Earlham students in community-related research and presentations.
- At the same time, our community is large enough to provide a microcosm of urban challenges. The community enjoys a symphony orchestra, civic theater, art and historical museum, environmental education center, regional arboretum, and miles of improved hiking and nature trails in the geologically rich Ordovician limestone Whitewater River gorge. Five institutions of higher education are located in Richmond and Wayne County: Earlham College, Earlham School of Religion, Bethany Seminary, Indiana University East and Ivy Tech State College.
- Richmond is near three airports: 45 minutes west of Dayton, Ohio; an hour east of Indianapolis; and 75 minutes northwest of Cincinnati.
