Laboratory Technician II

Experimental Procedures- rodent surgeries; prepares rats with intracranial self-stimulation electrodes and determines brain reward thresholds of rats; prepares rats with intravenous catheters and investigates the self-administration of nicotine; implants intravenous catheter and collects blood samples; monitors the health of animals that are used in the experiments.

Research Administration- data collection; analysis; making graphs; order research supplies; supervise and train undergraduate students and new staff members who work in lab.

1Other; prepare the laboratory for IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) and EHS (Environment Health and Safety) inspections; assist with paperwork for research volunteers (IACUC approval and EHS).

$15.00 to $18.20 per hour

Associate’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of related experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
