Job Description:

SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Bergstrom Real Estate Center is located within the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida. The Center supports the real estate educational programs, students, and faculty of the College. The Assistant Director will conduct existing study reviews and original research toward the Center’s objectives in accordance with university policies. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and managing data, applying econometric and statistical methods, supporting analytical needs of fellow researchers, and producing complete research reports. This position contributes analytical skills to meet the goals of the Center’s constituents, including students, real estate professionals, faculty, and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB AND THE PERCENTAGE OF TIME SPENT ON EACH FUNCTION

1. Database development and management

  • Maintain key data resources from internal colleagues, government sites, data subscriptions, and other sources using data structures and programming approaches that optimize efficiency for later analysis
  • Develop and organize data directory containing the various datasets used by Center members
  • Partner with researchers to determine the best data formatting and analytical applications to meet needs
  • Assure that live data fields are current
  • Assist research team in extracting and organizing data for individual studies

2. Produce complete research output

  • Originate and pursue real estate research topics
  • Produce data-driven reports and articles for delivery through the Center’s media channels
  • Create charts, data visualizations and informative presentations
  • Oversee student analysts to gain insight while they contribute to research analysis
  • Assure that Research Website is current and accessible to constituents

3. Analytical application

  • Provide faculty and staff with technical and analytical support
  • Consult with researchers on methods to empirically evaluate theories
  • Conduct econometric and statistical analysis for various projects

4. Explore machine learning and AI applications

  • Learn about the HyperGator facility and our ability to access it
  • Develop some AI applications to examine real estate related data
  • Serve as the Center’s liaison to the Data Science community at UF

5. Communicate research findings

  • Support student instruction on analytical topics
  • Deliver study findings and analytical results at Bergstrom Center events
  • Present Center analysis and conclusions to the real estate industry

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in the business and real estate fields. Advanced degrees and professional designations. Clear written and spoken communication. Professional knowledge of MicroSoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with machine learning and/or artificial intelligence.
