Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary position.
To receive practical training in the receipt, handling of, collection, sale, and distribution of materials and mail for the University Services Division. Perform work assignments incidental to training received.
MSU's COVID19 Early Detection Program is seeking a Material Handler Trainee to build, transport and distribute "Spartan Spit-Kits". https://earlydetection.msu.edu/
The person in this position will perform a variety of duties such as, but not limited to: Building/packaging spit kit tests, driving to deliver and pickup the tests and distributing test kits to Students/Faculty/Staff from one of several drive-thru stations on campus.
Desired QualificationsMust have a valid driver's license and an excellent driving history.
Must be able to navigate MSU's East Lansing and Grand Rapids campuses.
Must be able to read and follow directions.
Must be able to clearly communicate information and instructions to test participants
Must be in possession of, and be able to navigate a smart phone to send/receive email and text messages and participate in video conference calls.

Summary of Health RisksWhen returning spit-kits to the laboratory to be tested, the person in this position will be transporting saliva in a sealed tube. The tube contains an agent that immediately makes the COVID19 virus inactive. The tube is sealed and placed in a small sealed plastic bag by the person taking the test. The small sealed bag is then placed in a large plastic bag to be transported to the laboratory. All appropriate Personal Protection Equipment such as masks and gloves are provided.
Summary of Physical DemandsMust be able to lift and carry plastic bins 25lbs or less
Must be able to travel from parking space to buildings while carrying plastic bins
Must be able to be in one position for long periods of time, driving, building kits, monitoring a drive-thru site.
