Job description

Princeton University

The Geosciences Department at Princeton University seeks applications for a non-tenure track lecturer to teach GEO 202, "Oceans, Atmosphere, and Climate," an introductory undergraduate course for Geoscience majors during the Spring 2021 semester. The course should be lecture and problem-set based and covers topics including the Earth radiative budget, the atmospheric and oceanic circulations, climate change, contemporary carbon cycle and basic concepts on marine and terrestrial ecosystems. We are looking for a creative approach to introductory Earth science that does not overlap too heavily with other Princeton GEO courses. To apply, please submit an application that includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a one-page statement of teaching experience, a one-page course proposal, and contact information for three references. Candidates for this position must have a PhD in Geosciences or a related discipline. While we are hopeful that it will be possible to hold classes in person on the Princeton University campus, it may be necessary to hold classes virtually for all or part of the semester, or for a subset of students. Please ensure that your course proposal is designed to accommodate remote instruction. Diversity and inclusion are central to Princeton University's educational mission and its desire to serve society. Members of the Geosciences department have a deep commitment to being inclusive. We believe that commitment to principles of fairness and respect for all is favorable to the free and open exchange of ideas, so we seek to reach out as widely as possible in order to attract the ablest individuals as students, faculty, and staff. In applying this policy, we are committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of personal beliefs or characteristics such as political views, religion, national or ethnic origin, race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, marital or domestic partnership status, veteran status, disability, genetic information and/or other characteristics protected by applicable law in any phase of its education or employment programs or activities. Due to the volume of applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. No letters of recommendation are required at this time. This position is subject to the University's background check policy.
