Schedule: TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between class/lab hours of 8am-9:45pm.
Current work plan: Work will be On-Site/On-Campus. On-Site work has been approved by College Leadership.

Job Description:

The Hospitality Assistant will assist in maintaining the kitchen, dish cleaning and storage areas, and other surrounding areas in a clean, organized and sanitary manner by using proper and current methods and ensuring that all health and cleaning regulations are followed. This position will report to the General Manager of Degrees Restaurant. 
  • Washes utensils, silverware, plates, dishes, pots, pans, dishware, glasses, and/or cutlery by hand or machine using appropriate cleaning and sanitizing methods and stores in proper and sanitary manner
  • Polishes glass, silverware, cutlery, and/or utensils, helps clear dished from the dining area and assists the servers with meeting the guests requests
  • Helps clean and breakdown the 3rd floor lab dish area and follow all cleaning protocols
  • Assists with cleaning the dining room and setting up for the next shift, following all the standards and protocols of the labs and the restaurant
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and in proper operating condition
  • Assists in maintaining cleanliness of stations, coolers, freezers, and storage areas
  • Receives, weighs, counts, unpacks and stores food supplies
  • Issues food and requisitioned supplies to designated area
  • Organizes and cleans storeroom and refrigerators
  • Removes trash
  • Performs other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
Knowledge of: General/introductory knowledge of food service, kitchen experience, retail experience or customer service experience.

Skill in: organization; time management; working in a team environment; customer service.

Ability to: take direction and follow instructions; operate job equipment (training provided); work well under pressure and in a fast paced environment; proactively prioritize needs and effectively manage resources; be comfortable with constantly assessing and adapting to current practices to perform a task better, faster or more efficiently.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109. 

Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly. 

Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Previous experience in the restaurant industry or retail industry working with customers.
Seeking students from the following Career and Academic Pathways or Majors:

  • Baking and Pastry Arts majors
  • Culinary majors
  • Restaurant and Food Service Management majors
  • Other related Hospitality majors
 

Additional Information: Please note: this position is NOT virtual. Work will be performed on Columbus State's Columbus campus in Mitchell Hall.
