The Director of Admissions is responsible for providing leadership and daily supervision of the entire admissions staff, recruitment operations, as well as off campus admission events. Accountable for meeting or exceeding budget enrollment goals. The Director is responsible for planning, managing, and evaluating undergraduate and graduate recruitment and admission activities for Lamar University. Working with colleagues across enrollment management, the director supervises the Associate Director(s) of Admission, both in recruitment and operations, and the activity of all admission counselors and processors. In addition, this position will oversee processing for Lamar Institute of Technology.
•Develop, manage and evaluate admissions and recruitment strategies to achieve both long and short-term enrollment goals
•Assign recruitment territories; collaborate with admission counselors to plan and execute territory management
•Assist in statistical analysis when needed to support the efforts of Executive Director and the enrollment management Assistant Provost in steering the university’s enrollment profile
•Convene and lead regular staff meetings, maintaining a culture of collaboration, transparency and excellence
•Develop a training and professional development plan for admission counselors.
•Manage all aspects of the undergraduate enrollment funnel including development of the prospect and inquiry pools, conversion of leads to applicants, undergraduate and graduate admission application review and undergraduate yield activities designed to increase matriculants.
•Collaborate with Welcome Center leadership to ensure effective visit opportunities for diverse populations of students and parents
•Maintains competency and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as requested by office leadership
•Oversee recruitment events and evaluate their effectiveness as a function of yield initiatives, recommending improvements based on visitor experience and feedback
•Make recommendations regarding the web site and publications to promote Lamar University
•Collaborate with marketing to develop integrated communications plan to engage prospective students and parents through print, email, web, social media, texting and in-person outreach
•Attend various functions that merit Lamar University’s attendance (i.e. scholarship award ceremonies)
•Preforms all other essential duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and abilities:
•Bachelor’s degree and five years of progressively responsible admissions, recruitment and/or financial aid experience required. Master’s degree preferred
•Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, motivate and supervise a team of diverse individuals, including young early-career professionals
•Excellent public speaking and written communication skills
•Balance as a mentor and manager who can set professional development priorities while establishing expectations and accountability for success.
•Ability to roll up their sleeves and dig in at all levels of admission and enrollment
•Demonstrated ability to work with CRM or relational database program preferred
•Demonstrated organizational and planning skills
•Proven experience in developing systems and strategies and making data-driven decisions
