Full-Time Network Technician: EDP Systems Analyst II: Network/Analyst; Information Technology, IT Network Operations; 37.5 hours per week; AFSCME Unit I Position
This position will configure, install, maintain, upgrade and manage network hardware and peripherals evaluate; recommend and implement improvements to the network to meet current and future business requirements. Maintain network documentation. Assist in support for backups, restores, and disaster recovery. Additional responsibilities not directly related to this position may include assisting in the daily operations of the following: desktop support and general maintenance, diagnosing, repairing PC hardware and software problems for NECC desktop computers as well as basic support for other IT systems such as telephones, printers, copiers and any other IT equipment.
The successful candidate will have experience with full range of PC technology, Windows 7, 10, Windows Server 2012, 2016 & 2019, a working knowledge of VMware networking. Candidate must be a self-starter, able to work alone with minimal direction, and prioritize requests from multiple organizations. Candidate must exhibit excellent customer service, communication, problem solving skills
ANTICIPATED START DATE: February 2021
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Install, maintain and support all college owned network hardware, software and peripherals.
- Establishing a preventive maintenance program including loading software patches, perform operating system upgrades
- Troubleshoot and repair all college owned network hardware, software and peripherals using appropriate hardware, software, and diagnostic tools.
- Maintain IT hardware inventory of all network devices including network switches, firewalls, backup power equipment, etc
- Handle inquiries from students, faculty and staff on computer or network related questions
- Provide technical support to customers via E-Mail, phone, using remote software, on site, or any other form necessary
- Accountability for receiving, staging, and tracking IT equipment and tools
- Conduct pilots or proof of concepts of installation process and procedures for new or potentially new products and provide recommendations to IT leadership
- Able to think strategically and conceptually while managing details
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment, some twisting and turning with equipment installs.
- Create, update and maintain technical and user documentation
- Assist in the training of new IT staff, co-op students, and work-study students, staff and faculty as needed.

Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in industry experience, of which (B) at least one year must have been in work in which the major duties included network analyst position, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
- An Associate's degree with a major in the field of computer networking or computer and/or information science may be substituted for a maximum of one (1) year of the required experience.*
- A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in the field computer networking or computer and/or information science may be substituted for the required experience.*
- A diploma for completion of a two (2) year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of computer programming may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*
- An official transcript from a recognized business or vocational/ technical school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in the field of computer networking may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
- Graduation from the computer networking course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
* Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
- Experience with implementing new network infrastructure equipment
- Experience with L2/L3 network design and best practices
- Experience with network protocols and security
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Willingness to investigate, learn, and initiate new processes, technologies, and analytical tools.
- Must be able to interact with management, vendors and external parties and internal parties. Should be effectively communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience working in Higher Education
- Experience with Extreme Networks switches, Aruba Networks wireless equipment, Juniper/Mist wireless equipment
- Experience with VMware networking
- Working knowledge of Windows 7, 10, Windows Server 2012, 2016 & 2019
- Bilingual fluency - English/Spanish
- Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse, urban population in a Hispanic-Serving Institution
SALARY: $2,318.87 - $3,291.30 biweekly ($60,290.62 - $85,573.38 annually). An appointment from outside the bargaining unit (AFSCME) must start at Step I of the range.
