Job Summary

The University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science & International Affairs (PSIA). The successful candidate will teach on multiple campuses, initially splitting their time between the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching 12 hours per semester (4/4; undergraduate; face to face and potentially fully online) The successful candidate for this position will be able to teach courses in American politics and political theory. American courses needed would focus on American institutions, electoral politics, or other areas of American politics. In the area of political theory, the Department seeks a theorist who can teach traditional classes in political theory including Western Political Thought, American Political Thought, and general courses on political philosophy as well as Ethics in Government.
  • The successful candidate for this position must have a strong teaching background and a willingness to engage with diverse students at the introductory level in addition to upper division theory and American politics classes.
  • The department has a strong focus on advising and service.
  • Faculty are expected to conduct service at the departmental level as well as at the College and University levels.
  • Candidates also are expected to engage in research and scholarship as part of the tenure process.
Required Qualifications
  • The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in political science or a related field.
  • They must have a successful teaching and publication record. Applicants must have a focus on American politics, broadly defined, and Political Theory.

Preference will be given to those candidates who:
1) Have a strong background to teach American politics and Political Theory
2) Have taught Intro to American government
3) Experience teaching in on-line instruction
4) Are committed to strongly supporting and growing the degree offerings of the department. 5) Have engaged in significant advising and service activities
