Position Available: This position is available as soon as possible. This is a 100%-time, permanent, twelve-month Academic Professional position in the University Library.

Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent collects analytical evidence about the library's impact on student success. The incumbent conducts standard data-collection activities required by the University of Illinois, U.S. Department of Education/Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and professional organizations such as the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The incumbent works collaboratively to play an active role in fostering the “culture of assessment” within the University Library and the University.
The successful candidate will:
Collect Mission-Critical Data
- Apply knowledge from specialized fields including library and information science, data science, and related social sciences to the collection of data about library services, facilities, technology and collections
- Conduct surveys, interviews or other studies for assessing library services, facilities, technology and collections
- Perform research tasks such as:
- completing and submitting research protocols for Institutional Review Board (IRB) review; and
- designing and testing surveys or interview questions
Synthesize data and conduct analysis
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data and produce interpretive spreadsheets, charts, graphs and written reports
- Compile statistics for strategic planning, communication, unit annual reports, student learning outcome assessment (SLOA) as well as statistics needed for grant applications and library faculty research and publication
- Communicate results externally as well as internally with library units, committees, and working groups
Professional development and service duties
- Pursue professional development to keep current on trends and developments in library assessment, action research, and higher education assessment trends.
- Participate in local, state, regional, and national professional associations, conferences and committees as appropriate.

Some investigations originating in this manner may evolve into regular work assignments or production activities.
Required: A master’s degree in social sciences, information science, or related field; significant coursework or experience in a wide range of assessment methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative; demonstrated ability to design, implement, and interpret research that informs decision-making; experience with statistical analysis software such as SPSS or R; experience with data visualization software such as Tableau or Microsoft Power BI
Preferred: ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science (or equivalent), or demonstrated experience with library services; experience in planning and managing projects in a team environment; knowledge or experience in assessing user behavior in higher education settings; ability to view issues from a library-wide perspective and to contribute effectively to collaborative projects within and outside the library

Salary and Rank: Minimum salary is $55,000 and commensurate with credentials and experience. This position is eligible for the Library’s Academic Professional Promotion Program. Terms of Appointment: Twelve-month appointment; 24 annual vacation days; 11 annual paid holidays; 12 annual sick-leave days (cumulative), plus an additional 13 sick-leave days (non-cumulative) available, if needed, each year; health insurance requiring a small co-payment is provided to employee (with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents); required participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS) (8% of annual salary is withheld and is refundable upon termination), with several options for participation in additional retirement plans; newly-hired employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security and are subject to its deduction.
