Occ SummaryPlan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordancewith the medical and nursing plans of care and established po licies andprocedures.Provide nursing services to patients and families i n accordance with thescope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Bo ard of Nursing.Work PerformedPlan, provide and document professional nur sing care, utilizing thenursing process, in accordance with physician or ders and establishedpolicies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader orcharge nurse.Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed andunlicensed care providers.Assist other healthcare p ersonnel in the delivery of patient care.Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipmentand material resources.Prioritize work organization and identify resources available to assistin completi ng components of care in a timely manner.Participate in own professional development by maintaining requiredcompetencies, identifying learning n eeds and seeking appropriateassistance or educational offerings.Support the development of other staff and formal learners.Participate in theid entification of clinical or operational performanceimprovement opportuni ties and assist in performance improvementactivities.Perform other relat ed duties incidental to the work described herein.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse andNCA Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing pro cess.Knowledge of professional theory, practice and procedure.Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patientsand their fam ilies.Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaborative ly.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Abi lity to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors,healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others.Ability to teac h patients and families in accordance with the nursingplan of care.Abili ty to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritizeinfor mation, treatment, and follow-up.Ability to use fine motor skills.Compet ent in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirementsdesignated by work area or organization.Ability to record activities, document asse ssments, plan of care,interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of pat ient status.Ability to use computer and learn new software programs.Abil ity to document and communicate pertinent information using computerand/ or paper documentation tools.Ability to navigate the entity to provide c linical care for patients.Ability to withstand prolonged standing and wa lking.Ability to remain focused and organized.Working knowledge of proce dures and techniques involved in administeringroutine and special treatm ents to patients.Working knowledge of infection control procedures and s afetyprecautions.Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO a nd otherregulatory requirements.Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing Required.Level CharacteristicsN/A


Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.


Experience

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
