The Bucknell NSF RED project is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join the effort to integrate convergent problems into undergraduate courses. The postdoc will be responsible for qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. In particular we are seeking individuals grounded in the culture of engineering with skills in qualitative research who can do ethnographic studies of the program over the course of the project. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position expected to last 5 years.

The researcher is expected to perform data collection and analysis as needed, attend project-related meetings and workshops to build skills in communication and networking and be integrally engaged in the Communities of Transformation established by the project. Publications and presentations are expected to result to form the work supported by the grant and project personnel will prioritize presentation by the postdoctoral research should they wish it.

Bucknell has numerous opportunities to both learn how to be an effective teacher and to teach courses and labs both in the electrical and computer engineering department and across disciplinary boundaries such as interdisciplinary perspective courses, residential colleges, and foundation seminars should the postdoctoral researcher desire to take advantage of them. Travel support is provided to attend regional, national, and/or international scientific meetings or conferences to advance the postdoctoral researchers expertise and provide professional networking opportunities. On-campus professional development opportunities are available and include preparing an academic CV, how to write application letters, exposure to Bucknell's alumni network for non academic career opportunities and other topics relevant to obtaining long term employment. As part of their duties the research will attend faculty development workshops focused on teaching and learning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; writing; and mentoring.


Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD conferred by the official start date of the position. The PhD should be in a discipline that utilizes ethnographic research methodologies.
- Demonstrated background in both engineering and ethnography.
- Experience with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research, preferably all three.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with anthropology and ability/interest in engineering education in a systemic context.

The Community
