This position is designated as mandatory and when contacted to report to work, the incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions or other extenuating circumstances.
Primary Purpose of Position:The primary purpose of the Collections Maintenance Specialist position is to facilitate access to library collections by ensuring all library items are returned to their proper locations and maintained in an orderly manner.
This position is responsible for retrieving requested items from the collections housed in Atkins, routing them to their proper locations, managing the Atkins Library hold shelf, and retrieving library materials from all campus bookdrops.
In addition to maintaining the integrity and accessibility of collections in Atkins Library, this position will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining specialized knowledge regarding RFID technology in physical collections within Atkins.
This position will assist with temporary closed stacks or transitional stacks conditions as needed due to construction and renovations, and may travel to or staff the library’s offsite storage facility.
This position is responsible for performing missing item searches for items housed in Atkins and maintaining a list of missing items.
The position will train and guide student employees within Collections Maintenance.
The position is responsible for supervising the sorting operation in Collections Maintenance,
In the absence of the Collections Maintenance Manager, the Collections Maintenance Specialist will serve as a backup.
Working a minimum of 10 hours weekly at the Circulation Desk, this position is designated mandatory in emergency campus conditions.
The Collections Maintenance Specialist reports to the Collections Maintenance Manager and is part of the Access Services team.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of high school and two years experience in office support, preferably as a library technician in a library, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of high school and two years experience in office support, preferably as a library technician in a library.
Essential Job Duties:Maintaining the integrity of collections housed in Atkins Library;
Retrieving patron requests from collections housed in Atkins library;
Searching for missing items from collections housed in Atkins library; and
Working at least 10 hours per week on the circulation desk in Atkins Library.
Other Work Responsibilities:Supervising and checking work of student employees;
Making deliveries between Atkins library and the Offsite Storage location; and
Emptying on campus remote book drops.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:Academic library experience;
Experience using Library of Congress Classification and Superintendent of Documents Classification system; and
Experience using library ILS technology especially Alma.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications:Must have a valid NC Driver’s license.
