Position Summary

Summary of Position: A Business & Industry trainer collaborates with the college and local industry to develop and deliver ServSafe Food Manager Certification Course in Spanish. Western Technical College works with business throughout our district to provide high-quality training services designed to enhance employee skills and productivity. Trainings are held either at one of Western's campuses, or at the company's location. Business and Industry training assignments offer a great deal of flexibility.

Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student

2. Complete all required College training while being responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.

3. Training - Supporting Actions May Include:

  • Provide First Choice Service while developing the incumbent workforce served by Western Technical College
  • Collaborate with the college and business to develop customized non-credit training for employees in the skills area of Food Manager Certification. Established ServSafe curriculum is utilized for all Food Manager training. Business specific customized training may be required at a customer's request.
  • Work in partnership with the employer and Western Business & Industry staff to develop functional training materials in a professional format
  • Provide lecture and hands on training designed to enhance employee skills and productivity
  • Collaborate with Western Business & industry staff to determine dates and times of training sessions.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Occupational Requirements:

  • At least 7 years (14,000 hrs) verifiable occupational experience in food safety/production
  • Experience with employee training and development preferred but not required.
  • Must be an approved ServSafe certified instructor and proctor

    DUAL ROLE STATUS REQUIREMENTS
  • To earn your dual role status, you must:
    • Have a high school diploma or GED
    • Meet one of the following professional experience or advanced education requirements:
    • Professional experience
    • Have taught or trained for at least six months
    • Are in a training role (e.g., training at a trade school, at a state restaurant association or in a corporate setting)
    • Have worked in a foodservice operations environment for one year
    • Are employed as a health inspector or equivalent by a state or local regulatory authority
    • Work as a Registered Sanitarian, Registered Dietician, or equivalent
    • Advanced education
      • Have earned a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university or college in one of the following subjects:
        • Food Science
        • Food Technology
        • Epidemiology
        • Environmental Health
        • Public Health
  • Meet your state's food safety training requirements.
  • Know your state’s requirements.
  • Maintain high testing standards by:
  • Protecting the confidentiality of exam content
  • Excusing yourself in situations that may present a conflict of interest (e.g., proctoring the exam of a relative)
  • Following the standards and ethics outlined in the ServSafe Examination Administration Handbook and the Performance Agreement
