General Summary:

As the Social Services Coordinator for the Office of Off-Campus Support Services (U-ACCESS), you will serve as the primary case manager for all cases of students experiencing food, housing, or financial insecurities. You will supervise student case managers, be responsible for enhancing the quality of student care by designing and implementing follow up protocols, keep accurate reports utilizing university software, maintain and deepen community partnerships for student referrals, and oversee the entire U-ACCESS Emergency Housing Program.

Examples of Duties:

  • Assess current functioning and plan for continued, structured evaluation of the case management program
  • Supervise student case managers, including but not limited to training, scheduling, overseeing all cases, managing Maxient reporting, and providing continuous professional development opportunities
  • Supervise Pantry Specialists for intake and scheduling procedures
  • Keep accurate, organized, and updated records of all cases using Maxient
  • In partnership with the Office for the Dean of Students and other campus partners, provide holistic care to UMass Boston students
  • Maintain current relationships with stakeholders--non-profits, government officials, and others alike--and forge new partnerships to enhance available services for student clients
  • Determine student eligibility and govern student progress in the Emergency Housing Program


Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree in a social work, human services, or related area preferred, and a minimum of one-three (1-3) years of experience, preferably in a social services agency or higher education setting at a management level is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive Outreach Education Certificate
  • Training and/or education in social work or social services model of care
  • Experience providing social services to vulnerable clientele

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication, organizational, and emotional intelligence skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to provide trauma-informed and culturally competent care
  • Knowledge of the Boston and Massachusetts landscape regarding youth, young adult, and adult poverty
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and thrive with limited oversight
  • Ability to work successfully collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Ability to make competent, informed determinations and judgements on a range of confidential and/or sensitive issues in area of expertise
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
