The state’s Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services contracts with CIDD to coordinate the NCI project (https://www.nationalcoreindicators.org/). Each year, CIDD interviewers complete approximately 700 interviews of North Carolina residents with intellectual/ developmental disabilities. The purpose of the interviews is to assess outcomes of services provided to individuals and families. Indicators address key areas of interest including employment, rights, service planning, community inclusion, choice, and health and safety.

Interviews will be completed via Zoom, starting in January 2021. In-person interviewing will resume when COVID-19 conditions allow. For in-person interviewing, interviewers must provide their own transportation to interview sites which may include individual homes, workplaces, or public facilities. Location and time of interview will be determined by the consumer and/or guardian so may include evenings or weekends. The interviewer will be expected to independently conduct the standardized interview, record consumer responses and complete all required paperwork according to established protocol.

Initially, interviewers are needed to complete interviews remotely using our UNC Zoom account. When in-person interviewing resumes, interviewers will be needed in the following areas, particularly: all coastal counties; northeastern counties (from Washington to the Virginia line, including Plymouth, Edenton, Ahoskie, Elizabeth City, Williamston); Cleveland, Rutherford, and Polk counties; Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin counties; and Gaston, Lincoln, and western Mecklenburg counties.

Interviewers should have experience in the developmental disability field. Ideally, they should have knowledge of self-advocacy and have personal or professional experience that fits the tasks.

A four-year degree in a related discipline and one year of related training or experience, or a combination of training and experience, is required.
