Provides direction and leadership in the administration, personnel, budgetary, and legal requirements of the University's Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), including the program areas of Building Code, Risk Management, Insurance, Industrial Hygiene, Biological Safety, Chemical Safety, Laboratory Safety, Radiation Safety, Emergency Management, Environmental Compliance, Building Safety, Fire Safety/Systems and Training.
Direct the development, review and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives for EH&S.
Direct audit and inspections of University entities to ensure compliance with regulations and policy while continually assessing the potential for quality and customer service improvements.
Serves as the University liaison with Federal, State and Local authorities in matters related to EH&S programs.
Reviews research proposals to ensure that adequate life safety protections are in place and in compliance with Federal, State and Local laws.
Participate in the design, development and/or presentation of training programs and courses, and other presentations in support of University and departmental mandates and requirements.Qualifications Master’s degree and five years of related work experience; or a Bachelor’s degree and seven years of related work experience.
Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.
Ability to provide leadership and direction in programmatic, budgetary, and operational functions.
Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related Federal, State and Local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to Environmental Health and Safety.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local safety regulations, protocols, and procedures as they pertain to chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, or environmental standards.
Knowledge of the concept, principles, and practices of management.
Knowledge of emergency communications and hazard response practices, procedures, and protocols.
A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain upon hire.Pay Plan This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.Criminal Background Check This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting.
