The Senior Technical Director of Here & Now leads all aspects of and assisting in the pre-production and production of WBUR's daily four hour news magazine program, Here & Now. This position assists with and runs the operating the board during the show, ensuring the quality of interviews by telephone and other means and feed to NPR for distribution to stations. This position trains members of the WBUR tech team to fill-in during absences, and provides critical feedback about technical elements of the show to the Senior Director, as well as the Senior Managing Editor and Executive Producer.

Essential Functions:

  • Recording interviews with hosts for the program and making sure interview audio quality is technically sound. Facilitates audio connections of all kinds for interviews, ensuring audio quality standards; edits and mixes interviews and segments as advised by Here & Now team.
  • Supervises all technical aspects of Here & Now's live broadcast, as well as occasional Special Coverage, making connections to remote studios and guests.
  • Manages and supervises the Technical Director.
  • Regularly operates the board for Here & Now broadcasts. Responsibilities also may include obtaining music and sound effects, suggesting production techniques to meet program requirements, and reviewing productions to ensure objectives are met.
  • Post production of Here & Now for re-broadcast and for live updates during rollovers.
  • Produces and handles content as needed for Here & Now's digital platforms, including a daily podcast, related to broadcast segments on the program.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree preferred with at least five to eight years of related work experience
