About This Position
The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (HIHG) at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting career opportunity for a Supervisor, Research Laboratory. The Supervisor, Research Laboratory oversees complex research protocols and coordinates research activities within the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics Center for Genome Technology (CGT) sequencing and genotyping cores. Specifically, they will have intimate knowledge of the Illumina next-generation sequencing platforms (miseq/nextseq/novaseq), as well as significant experience with all types of NGS sample preparation techniques, including Illumina Truseq PCR-free whole genome, Nugen RNA and Agilent SureSelect protocols. They will function as the primary liaison between the Research Lab Manager and the core directors/research associates for all sequencing and genotyping lab needs including, but not limited to, laboratory and equipment maintenance, compliance, ordering, inventory, employee training and assessment.
Additionally, the Supervisor, Research Laboratory oversees complex clinical protocols and coordinates clinical activities within the Department of Human Genetics Biomedical Molecular Genomics Diagnostics Lab (BMGDL), spending approximately 15% of their overall time monitoring, maintaining, evaluating, and anticipating the needs of the BMGDL clinical sequencing platform. This includes keeping abreast of changes to compliance policies and procedures within the State of Florida clinical lab standards. They will also have sufficient experience processing through NGS clinical laboratory-determined tests, specifically, the Clinical Exome Solution by Sophia Genetics.
Bachelor's Degree in a basic science discipline with at least three years of relevant experience to include experience with all types of NGS sample preparation techniques that includes Illumina Truseq PCR-free whole genome, Nugen RNA and Agilent SureSelect protocols. Experience should also include processing through NGS clinical laboratory-determined tests, specifically the Clinical Exome Solution by Sophia Genetics. Should have knowledge of the Illumina next-generation sequencing platforms (miseq/nextseq/novaseq). Knowledge of business and management principles. Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations. Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan. Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others. Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
