Location address is 20515 SH 249 (SH 249 and Louetta Road) Houston, Texas 77070-2607.Job Description PURPOSE AND SCOPE:The Advisor II serves as the first point of contact and resource in meeting with, advising and tracking students' academic progress in connection with degree completion. Position provides academic advice and direction to students on degree planning, program requirements, course selection and enrollment, and schedule building. Educates students on LSC's policies and state & federal rules as they relate to them. Represents Lone Star College (LSC) internally and externally. This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of the positon from one academic year to the next is dependent upon continued grant funding. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Oversees daily and some long-term advising caseloads for AEL program operations. Actively maintains up-to-date knowledge of area and acts as a Subject Matter Expert within area and as a point of contact and liaison for internal and external constituentsMeets with students on a regular basis to track their academic progress and successEnters, tracks and maintains a variety of data, including documents, spreadsheets and databasesMay be responsible for ensuring and maintaining compliance with local/state/federal compliance of processes and documentation within assigned areaAdvises students on proper course selection for all, non-credit certificate programs (includes Workforce and CTE), including TSI regulations and placement, course prerequisites, co-requisites, recommended course sequence, and associated with University Center and other colleges and universities. Provides information to students on relevant program requirementsAdvises students on opportunities for transfer of AAS degrees into bachelor degreesAdvises students with job searches and externship, and advises graduate¿s on employment in their field of study. Assists with the career interest assessments, career exploration processes and tools, and provides information on job search and interviewing techniques, preparation and appropriate follow up, and in developing resumes and cover lettersTracks students through program completion and provides data on students with declared workforce majors. May include success, retention, completion and graduation rates as well as other data. Provides assistance in completing graduation checks and applicationsWork with Program Manager to develop best practices for Adult Education population based on student correspondence, advising appointments and needTakes part in and/or leads special projects as needed, including presenting informational orientation sessions related to adult-learners, first-time-in-college students and providing academic advice and assist with the enrollment process. Most Adult Education and Literacy Orientations will require travel between Lone Star College Campus locations and approved off- site locationsProvides coaching and advising to students on skills to develop a clear and attainable education plan and goal, including MEP (My Educational Plan) Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong attention to accuracy and detailExcellent knowledge of general office and software applicationsAbility to prepare and analyze reportsPossesses excellent organizational skillsStrong multi-tasking abilities with the ability to prioritize dutiesHigh level of customer service PHYSICAL ABILITIES:The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS: Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipmentInterface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the positionWork is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree and at least 3 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceSalary
Hiring salary range is $43,070 - $49,530
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
