Title: Office Support Specialist

Department: University Housing Services

General Summary

This position will support and assist the Assistant Director, Residential Life through performing a variety of clerical functions, accurate record-keeping, and supervision of student employees.

Required Qualifications

1.High school graduation or equivalent.

2.One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to the second level of this series. This work includes performing office support tasks requiring knowledge of general office and departmental procedures and methods, operating a variety of office equipment, and operating computer systems (word processing, database, and software packages).

3.Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months) of experience in the categories below:

a. work experience performing office/clerical activities, including use of computer systems

b. college or university coursework in any curriculum

- twelve (12) semester hours = six (6) months
- twenty-four (24) semester hours = twelve (12) months
- thirty-six (36) semester hours = eighteen (18) months
- forty-eight (48) semester hours = twenty-four (24) months

Desired Qualifications

1. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
2. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally over the phone and in person, including the ability to take and relay accurate information
3. Ability to perform mainframe data entry
4. Must be flexible to manage multiple and changing priorities
5. Working knowledge of typical office equipment (computers, copy and scanning machines, multi-line telephone, etc.)
6. Good record-keeping and proofreading skills
7. Supervisory experience or knowledge base of supervisory concepts.
8. Knowledge of University systems and organizational structure
9. Experience in marketing and programming to think creatively and help in generating ideas for programming and marketing needs related to the current student population.
10. Appreciation of diversity and creating an inclusive environment for students and staff.

Work Hours

8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

1. Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis.
2. Ability to use a computer in day-to-day work (i.e. type on a keyboard and use a mouse).
3. Ability to work for extended periods at computer workstation.
4. Ability to maintain a high level of concentration.
5. Ability to perform sedentary work involving sitting the majority of the time.
6. Ability to lift and carry quantities of forms, audio-visual equipment and office supplies on a weekly basis.

$15.46 – $16.11 per hour
