The typical work week is Monday thru Friday 8am-5pm (9am-6pm) but may be adjusted according to the needs of the department. The position requires Sunday hours on a rotating basis. Position will typically work 40 hours per/week, however based on duties of position, individual may be called to assist with campus and individual crisis during evenings and weekends and during peak periods of high patient volume.

Advertised Job Summary:

The Medical Technologist performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests as ordered by the medical staff in a CLIA licensed and COLA accredited laboratory. Candidates must be certified through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other recognized National Certification agency. This position requires a high aptitude for problem solving as well as the ability to convey information concerning the technical aspects of a wide array of tests and procedures. The person in this position serves as the lead technologist and serves as the laboratory manager in his/her absence. This position also oversees the daily maintenance logs, testing systems and the quality improvement activities of the lab. The position may require Sunday hours on a rotating basis. Position will typically work 40 hours per/week, however based on duties of position, individual may be called to assist with campus and individual crisis during evenings and weekends and during peak periods of high patient volume. During emergency and weather related events, this position is considered essential personnel.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Bachelors degree and 3 years of related experience or Associates Degree and 5 years of related experience.

Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other recognized National Certification agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience supervising daily activities in a medical lab in accordance with CLIA and COLA. Experience using electronic laboratory information system and conducting quality improvement activities.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles, and information sources for clinical laboratory applications including current laboratory methods, equipment and materials. Knowledge of human physiology. Skill in the use of precision tools and complex laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Ability to prepare and maintain laboratory records and communicate effectively. The ability to prepare and present technical training, and supervise laboratory activities. The ability to perceive colors normally and make olfactory distinctions.
