Working closely with the Director of Human Resources the HR Specialist promotes Marian University’s Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by proactively partnering with managers, faculty and staff to address a variety of workplace topics. The Specialists responsibilities include recruiting and staffing logistics, student employment, assists with benefits administration, provides excellent customer service and responds to initial employee inquiries.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Actively engages the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in all areas of service.
  • Manages all responsibilities related to the student employment process.
  • Provides administrative support to the Sr. VP of Finance.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition as needed; including sourcing, coordination of interviews, pre-employment screenings, and new hire orientation.
  • Responsible for employee-related data entry within the Student Information System.
  • Data administration for benefit plans; including enrollments, changes and terminations.
  • Reconciles invoices and payments to submit to finance; tracks HR’s budget.
  • Orders office supplies for the HR department.
  • Assists with updating University Organization Chart.
  • Maintains physical and electronic personnel files and other related documentation.
  • Responds to employee inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Manages the employee recognition program, specifically employee anniversaries.
  • Assists the HR staff with daily HR functions; including preparation and collection of performance reviews, employee engagement, university communication, and general support.
  • Assists with the implementation of employee benefit programs. Tracks and posts OSHA required data and files reports.
  • Reports on Human Resources metrics and works on special projects as assigned
  • Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures
  • Understands basic payroll processes and systems.
  • Stays abreast of current employment laws and regulations
  • Additional responsibilities and duties as assigned
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have:

  • Knowledge of and a commitment to the mission of Marian University
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or Organizational Development or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in Human Resources, preferably in Higher Education.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate unquestionable ethics and trust
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong proofreading, attention to detail, and follow through skills are essential
  • Highly motivated, self-directed work ethic
  • Ability to identify and problem solve in an effective manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees and leadership
