    SUMMARY:

    The Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine offers the following programs:

      Master's Degrees in Counseling, Organizational Leadership, and Executive Coaching and ConsultationBachelor's Degrees in Leadership Studies and Organizational Psychology
    • Certificate programs in the Townsend Growth Model, Organizational Leadership, and Executive Coaching and Consultation

    These programs are offered online and available to students in the United States and Internationally.

    ROLE:

    The Academic Advisor for the Townsend Institute assists in supporting the various programs and its students with respect to enrollment, orientation, registration, ongoing academic support and graduation. The Academic Advisor also assists in carrying out duties and tasks that contribute to the academic advising and student progress toward degree. All activities of this position are to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the university.

    STAFF RELATIONSHIPS:
    • Reports to the Assistant Program Director of the Townsend Institute
    • Approved by the Associate Dean and Dean of the Townsend Institute, and the Executive Vice President/Provost
    • Work closely with the Registrar's Office, Graduate and Adult Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Townsend Institute Program Directors
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
    1. Formulate basic graduation plans for all
    2. Interpret and record academic
    3. Demonstrate ability to create and update accuracy all graduation requirements and academic progress toward degree for the Townsend Institute
    4. Participate in carrying out registration procedures including satisfactory academic progress toward graduation.
    5. Demonstrate full knowledge of academic policies, majors, minors, and programs for the Townsend Institute for each catalog
    6. Assist with additional departmental tasks as determined by the Assistant Director
    7. Assists with transfer requests by working with Program Directors and Admissions.
    8. Notify students of deadlines, registration procedures, course options, course evaluations and class schedules throughout their program by preparing email
    9. Knowledgeable about CACREP requirements and able to advise counseling students appropriately regarding licensing requirements in their home
    10. Explains the process and policies for admissions, enrollment, registration and deadlines to all new and returning
    11. Assist students with support needed from enrollment through graduation.
    12. Provide award-winning customer service and availability to all prospective, current students, faculty and staff
    13. Assist Admissions Department with updating of program materials and communication to prospective and continuing students.
    14. Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    • Recommended by the Assistant Director of the Townsend Institute in consultation with the Associate Dean of the Townsend Institute
    • Approved by the Dean of the Townsend Institute and Executive Vice President/Provost

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to students, families or employees of the university.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
