Educational and Experience Requirement:Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science, Education, Outdoor Education, a service related field, or other related field preferred. Two years of experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position:Designs, markets and implements Sam Houston State University’s Student Success /Academic Success Center Initiatives special events and programs as assigned. Develops, manages, and assesses Student Success Initiatives programs. Provides mentoring and academic support to university students.
Primary Responsibilities:Directs the implementation of Student Success/Academic Success Center Initiatives. Oversees student staff training and maintains student personnel in these positions. Recruits Student Success Initiatives program participants. Manages Student Success Initiatives student enrollments in fall, spring, and summer semesters. Creates and manages Student Success Initiative schedules with faculty department chairs. Implements workshops for Student Success Initiatives students in collaboration with first-year initiatives, academic support services, Residence Life administration, and Student Advising and Mentoring Center (SAM Center) Advisors. Leads committee teams and student teams to accomplish goals for special events. Prepares and reviews reports on the effectiveness of program activities. Confers with staff on program issues and problems and recommends solutions. Recommends program guidelines, procedures, polices, rules, and regulations. Interprets policies, rules, and regulations and ensures they are followed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications:Some weekend and evening hours are required. Must possess ability to handle a variety of student issues and administrative details independently. The ability to effectively communicate with various University departments and outside groups, students, faculty, staff, and parents is required. If selected for an interview, candidate will be required to give a 3-5 minute presentation on a college Student Success Initiative.
