Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is dedicated to the discovery, development, and promotion of biomedical knowledge involving cell biology and the anatomical sciences of Gross Anatomy, Developmental Anatomy, Histology, and Neuroanatomy. Though this mission, we aim to improve human health through innovative educational programs and excellence in research and scholarly activities in a dynamic and diverse learning community.

Job Duties :

The Manager of Anatomical Gift Program position involves management of the Anatomical Donor Program to include public relations, policy development, procurement, storage, handling and disposal of cadavers and other anatomical material for teaching and research. The Manager of Anatomical Gift Program is also responsible for managing departmental fixed assets inventory of teaching and research equipment; supervising all teaching materials used by graduate, medical, and allied health students; and establishing and maintaining collaborative relationship with mortuary science programs, and the pathologists and pathology technicians of Vidant Medical Center.

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology (A&CB) at The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University invites applications for a Anatomical Gift Program (AGP)/Anatomy Lab Manager. The successful candidate will be tasked with a wide spectrum of duties involved in management of the AGP and Anatomy Labs including but not limited to:
•Donor/donor family communications via telecommunications, electronic correspondence, and face to face interactions
•Public relations and community outreach
•Procurement of donors in coordination with the ECU mortuary service vendor
•Storage, preparation and preservation of anatomical materials
•Maintenance of gross and neuroanatomy laboratory spaces, equipment, supplies and anatomical models
•Handling and disposal of anatomical materials used for teaching and research
•Supervise use of laboratory chemical solutions and work with Environmental Health services to follow proper lab safety regulations

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:


Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

The successful candidate will preferably have a/an:
•Bachelor’s or associates degree in biology, medical, and/or mortuary related sciences.
•Some heavy lifting and repair of lab related equipment will be necessary

•Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills
•Technical competency to maintain donor database
•Strong organizational and multitasking skills
•Experience managing and maintaining privacy of information and confidentiality of donor records
Preferred Competencies:
•Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing anatomical gift programs, crematories, funeral services and death registration
•Knowledge of OSHA laboratory health and safety regulations and compliance
•Independent and motivated problem-solving skills
•Knowledge of power tools and hydraulic lift equipment
