Position Summary:We are searching for a postdoctoral fellow trained in one or more of the following fields: genetic epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, bioinformatics, or biological/metabolic science with strong statistical training interested in interdisciplinary research on health using big data. The research will take place at the Carolina Population Center and the postdoctoral fellow will work as part of a collaborative team with expertise in human biology, epidemiology, metabolomics, and biostatistics. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in metabolism as well as in the analysis of -omics data and in understanding the structure and function of metabolic networks in health and pathology. Our NHLBI-funded R01 project focuses on investigating how metabolic dysregulation accelerates CVD risk, particularly in the context of obesity. The work is highly innovative in research design and will have the potential for translational and policy impact for prevention, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Additionally, there will be ample opportunities for connecting with a wider network of scientists and career development. The initial term of appointment is one year, reappointment for a 2nd and 3rd year is likely depending on contributions to the progress of the project.
Educational Requirements:A PhD or equivalent in epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, human biology, metabolism, or related discipline with strong quantitative training.
Qualifications and Experience:We are seeking a productive, self-driven, and collaborative scientist with a strong background in preferably more than one of the following fields: metabolic pathways, epidemiological methods, causal modeling, data science, high dimensional analysis and experience in interdisciplinary research.
Experience with large datasets, cohort studies, SAS/R, pathway analyses and collaborative team science desired.
Experience with obesity, metabolism, cardiovascular disease, genetics, and biomarkers of nutrition, metabolic, and other physiological functions is highly preferred.
Equal Opportunity Employer:The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, race, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran.
