Position Summary:

The Structural Genomics Consortium Center for Chemical Biology in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is a multi-disciplinary research group that uses cell biology, chemical biology, and medicinal chemistry to generate open science research tools and data for the dark proteome. We are seeking a highly self-motivated and experienced senior scientist to support key molecular and cell biology capabilities at the SGC-UNC. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the cell biology laboratory of the US site of the SGC in support of its mission to enable new targets for drug discovery from the dark proteome.

Educational Requirements:

Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in molecular biology, biological sciences or relevant field of study. For candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Qualifications and Experience:

-Knowledge of and experience with cutting edge molecular and cell biology techniques is essential
- The ideal candidate must have an established record of scientific impact, excellent communication skills, scientific problem solving capability as well as an ability to collaborate with partners both internally and externally
- Broad cell culture expertise (cell lines, primary cells and iPSCs) and demonstrated capability to propagate cultures of primary human cell types are also key requirements
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute experiments, solve problems independently, troubleshoot methods, analyze and interpret data and present results
- Understanding of the principles and practice of research using small molecule inhibitors is highly desired
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and adapt to changes in work priorities
- Strong written and oral communication skills
