Position Summary:Law school can be a very stressful time for students. Stress can manifest itself in a number of ways, and often intervention is needed to help students find healthy ways to counteract stress and anxiety. Developing healthy habits for handling stress is a professional skill that will benefit medical and graduate trainees into their future careers as clinicians and researchers. The Student Wellness Counselor reports to the Assistant Director of CAPS and will be expected to convey trends and concerns of students to champion a healthy environment for all students at the UNC School of Law. This environment will promote the development of lifelong skills for achieving and maintaining optimal physical and mental health. The Student Wellness Counselor will lead counseling efforts to improve School of Law student wellness and burnout prevention.
Educational Requirements:Relevant professional and educational credentials and licensure in clinical field of social work or mental health practice as deemed appropriate by the Department Head.
Qualifications and Experience:Board eligibility for licensure by the North Carolina Board of Social Work or equivalent licensure board. Full licensure is expected. Employees who have just completed their training will be given adequate time to prepare and achieve licensure. Current knowledge in depth of their field and its standards of practice; commitment to the practice of quality mental health services including a commitment to human value in that practice; special interest in the University setting and the processes of maturation which occur during college years, undergraduate and graduate; ability to work with other professional staff and support staff to produce integrated professional services; understanding of issues of diversity with demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff; ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs.
