Position Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking to hire an individual to lead our well-established Pediatric Sickle Cell Program which is part of the UNC Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program, established in 1971. The successful candidate for this open rank faculty position in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology will have clinical expertise and research experience in the area of hemoglobinopathies. Med-Peds training is preferred. Board eligibility or certification in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is required. Rank and amount of protected time will be determined at a level commensurate with the applicant’s experience and accomplishments. Clinical duties include inpatient and outpatient care, participation in weekly and weekend on-call rotation with all Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologists, and in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology consult service and the teaching of fellows, residents and medical students in a children’s hospital and comprehensive cancer center setting. This position has traditionally included some involvement in the outpatient care of adults with sickle cell disease as well if Med-Peds trained.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers an exceptionally collaborative environment with very strong clinical programs in both hematology and oncology in pediatrics and adulty medicine as well as outstanding basic and translational research programs. The division currently includes 17 faculty physicians, 14 nurse practitioners and 9 fellows. Divisional interests include pediatric liquid and solid tumors, neuro-oncology, childhood cancer survivorship, stem cell transplantation, hemoglobinopathies, hemostasis and thrombosis and all areas of benign hematology.

Educational Requirements:

Board eligibility or certification in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is required.

The successful candidate for this open rank faculty position in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology will have clinical expertise and research experience in the area of hemoglobinopathies.
