The University of North Texas at Dallas New Student Orientation program is seeking New Student Orientation Leaders. The Orientation Leaders will perform a variety of duties and support assignments with well-defined instructions and guidelines provided by the Coordinator of New Student Orientation and the New Student Orientation Executive Orientation Leader team. Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of New Student Orientation, Orientation Leaders will serve as a resource and mentor for first time in college freshman and transfer students throughout the orientation season. This position requires the incumbent to maintain a consistent and effective level of professionalism with students and their guests and good time management skills. Orientation leaders will be expected to work all freshman and transfer orientation sessions throughout the summer. This also includes all necessary preparation days and orientation leader training events. Specific hours are set based on the orientation schedule as determined by the supervisor.Position Summary:
•Writing and sharing content regarding personal college experiences and providing advice to incoming freshmen and transfer students.
•Lead peer discussions during each new student orientation session.
•Energetically lead icebreaker and team building activities for students during each orientation session.
•Give informative and engaging campus tours during each orientation session.
•Answer questions and serve as a resource for new freshman students throughout their first semester.
•Making phone calls to students registered for an orientation session to confirm attendance.
•Prepare materials (nametags, t-shirts, binders, snacks, etc.) for each orientation session.
•Assist with the orientation check-in and check-out process.
•Assist as a host/chaperone to all post-orientation social outings.
•Assist orientation staff and other professional staff with event logistics and production tasks during each orientation session to ensure its success.
•Answer student questions in-person, on the phone and via email while providing excellent customer service.
•Conduct one-on-one check-in meetings/calls that will help facilitate in new students’ transition to UNT Dallas and prevent summer melt.
•Perform data entry to facilitate program assessment and evaluation.
•Perform other assignments as needed.
Currently enrolled UNT Dallas student in good standing and making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree or certification program. Applicants must possess the following:
•Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
•Some knowledge of office practices and procedures.
•Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
•Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds.
•Responsible, reliable and punctual.
•Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in the operation of common office equipment.
• Minimum 2.0 GPA.
•Ability to be present at all orientation sessions, preparation, and training days.
•Ability to demonstrate energy and appropriate work ethic.
•Ability to effectively interact with and speak in front of large groups.
•Ability to adhere to a strict confidentiality policy and the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
•Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
•Demonstrate the ability to have school spirit and enthusiastic about being an UNT Dallas Trailblazer.
