The Department: UNT Theatre possesses a strong reputation in the area for quality training and a professional faculty. The Department of Dance and Theatre is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences with currently 8 full-time theatre faculty, 2 full-time dance faculty, adjunct teaching artists and approximately 500 majors and minors in Theatre. The Department offers a BA degree in Theatre with concentrations in Performance, Design/Technology, General Studies and Theatre Teacher Certification and a BA degree in Dance and a BA in Dance with Teacher Certification. The vibrant undergraduate program delivers a rigorous theatre education within a liberal arts context. The Department produces a full season of 5-6 productions as well as several laboratory events directed by faculty, guest artists or students. Additionally, UNT Theatre is committed to hiring guest professional artists to engage with students and faculty.

Denton, Texas: Denton is home to two state universities (UNT and Texas Woman’s University) and is known for its live music scene. Denton is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is located just 36 miles from either city’s center. With 7.5 million people and two international airports, DFW is the fourth-largest metro area in the United States. Position Summary:

The Department of Dance and Theatre at the University of North Texas invites applications for a Non-Tenure Track full-time Lecturer in Costume Design and Technologies to begin September 1, 2021. The position of Lecturer comes with full benefits. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a 4/4 teaching load (which includes designs for departmental productions); supervise and manage the department costume and make-up shop; mentor and supervise student creative work; collaborate with performance, dance, design/tech faculty and guest artists; and serve as costume and make-up area advisor. Other responsibilities include active participation in recruitment for future students as well as internships and career development for current students. Classes to be taught include, but are not limited to, three levels of costume design, make-up design, costume construction, History of Costume and Décor, and other courses within the candidate’s field of expertise and as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

MFA in Theatre Design with an emphasis in Costume, or a related discipline; hand and digital rendering techniques; evidence of teaching in areas of Costume Design, Costume Construction, and related technologies; and costume shop management experience. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion in preparation for joining a university that is also both a Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

Work experience in professional theatre with experience in a variety of design genres including dance.
