Mount St. Mary's University Dean, Richard J. Bolte, Sr. School of Business

The Mount St. Mary’s University community seeks a Dean of the Richard J. Bolte School of Business to provide innovative programmatic development, student-centered, collaborative and visionary leadership, and external relationship-building.

Mount St. Mary’s University (MSMU) is a comprehensive, coeducational, Catholic institutiondedicated to liberal learning in the pursuit of truth. The second oldest Catholic university in the country, MSMU describes itself as “Catholic in a contemporary way” and welcomes students of all faiths and prides itself on a diverse student body (42% minority students). MSMU serves more than 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students at its two locations (Emmitsburg and Frederick, MD), promoting a holistic approach to the student experience and learning.

The Bolte School of Business builds innovative education programs, advances knowledge through quality scholarship, promotes responsible business practices, and develops future leaders who are ethical decision-makers and effective problem-solvers. Combining a strong liberal arts education with solid career preparation and programmatic offerings, the Bolte School seeks to transform individuals and their communities with ethical decision- making and a spirit of service. The Bolte School’s 19 full-time and 20 adjunct faculty are highly committed to student success. In addition to their strong record of teaching and scholarship, many bring significant experience as practitioners in corporate, non-profit, and/or governmental settings.

The Bolte School of Business offers undergraduate majors in Accounting, Business, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Forensic Accounting, and Sport Management, as well as the Philosophy, Political Science and Economics (PPE) major in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts. Master’s degrees, with classes in both Emmitsburg and Frederick, are offered in Business Administration, Health Administration, and Sport Management. The Bolte School also offers two adult undergraduate accelerated baccalaureate degree completion programs and a number of graduate certificate programs at the Frederick campus. The School is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), with the next accreditation review scheduled for the Spring of 2022.

The successful candidate will be the principal champion for innovative vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the School’s academic programs. Key qualifications include a demonstrated record of successful leadership in higher education academic administration; experience outside of higher education in a corporate, non-profit, or other setting is preferred, but not required; experience engaging the business and governmental community to develop mutually beneficial partnerships; data-driven and collaborative servant leadership; and a strong commitment to the university’s mission, vision, values, and Catholic identity. An advanced degree in a business-related field is required, with a terminal degree preferred.
