Job Description:

The UF Office of Academic Support (OAS) is seeking highly motivated individuals to serve as an Academic Success Coach (ASC) for the TRIO Student Support Services Program (SSS). SSS is a federally funded grant program designed to identify and provide services for individuals who are first-generation, limited-income, and/or a student with a documented disability.

The ASC will provide and coordinate individual and group services to student participants in the UFSSS program, focusing of offering guidance and support to help students achieve their academic goals. Support services include tutoring, academic and life coaching, success workshops and other academic or engagement activities. The ASC coach works with students to overcome academic challenges and other barriers that interfere with their progress towards graduation. ACS will also assist in increasing academic engagement of students to help them successfully navigate college life. The overall goal of this position is to aid in student transition, retention and degree completion.

This position reports to the SSS Assistant Director and carries an individual caseload of 20-30 students, while providing required and optional services to student participants in accordance with the grant requirements. This position requires some evening and weekend hours with some potential travel. This is a temporary-grant funded position.

The duties will include:

  • Serve as a team member assisting with coordinating and implementing programs and events.

  • Provide support services to student students, documenting all contact and recording data in the database.

  • Build a rapport with students, creating a safe, positive and inclusive environment to facilitate delivery of support services.

  • Assist students in establishing goals and tracking progress towards those goals.

  • Coordinate academic interventions, coaching sessions, workshops that included Health and Wellness, Career or Financial Literacy.

  • Prepare reports on student academic progress and assist in program assessment.

  • Coordinate and facilitate promotional events such as Preview, Florida Days, and other UF programs.

  • Assist with the maintenance of sensitive student information

  • Guide, connect and refer students to appropriate services to facilitate comprehensive student support.

  • Maintain consistent communication and regular follow-up with students.

  • Assist in promoting OAS programs and services

  • Assist with the supervision, leadership development and training of student employees (Peer Coaches and Peer Undergraduate Coordinators)

  • Research and report on common student issues/concerns/initiatives such as: support services, student development, retention, policy development, academic warning; and assist with assessment efforts pertaining to key performance indicators and customer satisfaction.

Expected Salary:

$15.00 - $18.00 hourly; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, counseling, student services, and/or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring/coaching/tutoring/advising first-generation, limited-income, underrepresented students, and/or students with disabilities.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of low-income, first-generation or students with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of TRIO Programs or student support services.

  • Ability to utilize concepts of student development and student retention in coordinating services for coaching and advising.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • Self-motivated and willingness to take the initiative on assigned projects.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including ability to learn and utilize student database software.

  • Commitment to UF SSS student success

  • Bachelor s degree, or higher, in counseling, education, or a related field

  • Knowledge or experience with college access, retention programs, and leadership development.
