Job Description:

The Xie Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is looking for an OPS Laboratory Technician to conduct molecular biological and biochemical experiments. This position will also be responsible for safety inspections, general laboratory maintenance, and ordering laboratory supplies. Xie lab information: https://xie.biochem.med.ufl.edu

Duties will include:

  • Conducting molecular biological and biochemical experiments on microRNA biogenesis.
  • Ordering supplies
  • Preparing for and responding to safety inspections
  • Managing general laboratory maintenance
  • Supervising of undergraduate student workers
  • Expected Salary:

    $13.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Associate's degree in an appropriate area; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. At least one year of documented bench research in molecular biology or biochemistry is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field, and a strong understanding of molecular biology, especially gene regulation.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in isolation of DNA, RNA, and protein extracts; cloning; know how to design PCR primers and perform RT-PCR; research literature relating to experiments; pay attention to detail and be precise; work flexible hours depending on specific experiments; compile and analyze data; and keep complete and precise records, including an up-to-date, organized, legible, and accurate laboratory notebook. Applicants must also possess good math skills, solid basic computer knowledge, excellent use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and an ability to interact and communicate well with others.
