Position Highlights:

This is a research position for an active research laboratory in the ARL Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Arizona. The laboratory investigates the underlying biological mechanisms of normal age-related alterations in memory. Laboratory personnel explore the dynamic changes in information processing that can be observed across species, using behavioral tools, ensemble electrophysiological recording techniques, immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization staining techniques, as well as novel single cell and non-invasive imaging methods. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of researchers (staff, undergraduate students, graduate students, postdocs and faculty) under the direction of Dr. Carol Barnes on a wide range of experiments involving animal (rodent) behavioral tasks, electrophysiology, neurophysiological recordings, etc. Additional skills that are necessary include good communication, detail oriented, accurate, technical writing skills, ability to work well in a group environment (as well as independently), to work successfully with demanding deadlines, and with flexibility in their schedule to meet the requirements of the experimental protocol, which can involve evenings and weekends. We are looking for someone who will be successful in a support role and thrive in a collaborative environment, with many simultaneous projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Behavioral training in young and old rats
  • Learn and carry out immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization staining techniques
  • Confocal microscopy
  • Basic data analysis
  • Organizes schedules and oversees undergrad students in behavioral training
  • Proof-read and provide technical writing guidance for students' research papers
  • Maintaining experimental research and data
  • Electrophysiological recordings
  • Orders lab supplies and maintains inventory
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.

Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with animals (rodents)• Experience with animal behavioral tasks • Experience in rodent neuroanatomy
