Job Details
This position is responsible for working with various organizations within OIT to support Linux technologies and maintain systems for the statewide identity and access management. System administration experience is necessary in order to perform the duties assigned to this position. The administrator will install, configure, maintain and perform testing of Linux (Red Hat) operating systems, related utilities, applications, and hardware. The administrator will work with IAM staff at all campuses to troubleshoot and resolve IAM problems that occur at both the system and user level and work with senior administrators to implement changes and solutions required to support new authentication and authorization needs.
The candidate is responsible for troubleshooting operating system, and software problems. Monitors systems activities and fine-tunes configuration to optimize performance. Performs system utilization analysis to ensure systems are following best practices for security and utilization. Develops procedures for routine administration including design, patching, deploying software, implementing Linux server configuration etc.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
• Operating System and software installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting & monitoring
• Account management (Linux) and directory services (LDAP) support, guided by senior staff.
• Document work procedures and write documentation as new processes and procedures are developed.
• Customer support liaison.
• Testing and quality assurance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by senior staff.
• Working with virtualization technologies (VMware)
• Working with Puppet configuration management software
• Scripting and automating processes
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or in a related field or equivalent related work experience
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience concentrated in IT system supportJOB SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Required:
• Linux/Unix system administration
• Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate, both written and orally
• Excellent organizational, planning skills and project management skills on system upgrade
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracyPreferred:
• Understanding of basic directory services (LDAP or AD) concepts and usage.
• Familiarity with Red Hat Directory Server (LDAP)
• Familiarity with Linux configuration management tools
• Familiarity with Red Hat Linux, preferably RHEL 7 or 8.
• Familiarity with VMware environments
• Familiarity with ISC DHCP
• Programming skills (any language)
• *nix shell scripting
