Job DescriptionInpatient Pain Service Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) Position SummaryThe Duke Inpatient Pain Service Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides direct patient care services to patients on the Inpatient Pain Service for all age groups (adult and pediatric) in collaboration with the attending physician, fellows other APPs and residents. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates care, and provides direct patient care services. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.
NP: Work requires completion of accredited graduate level Nurse Practitioner program.
PA: Work requires graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies.
NP: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina and approval to practice as an NP.
PA: Licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of North Carolina.
NP: National Certification as an NP
PA: National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification is required
Masters and experience in medical/surgical management as an advanced practice provider for at a minimum of 1 years is preferred but not required.
HoursThe Pain Management Service provides coverage for the Inpatient Pain Service, rotating day and night and possible clinic coverage, including emergent needs and minimal prescheduled shifts, including weekend shifts and holidays. These hours will be scheduled in collaboration with the other team members. Schedule may be changed by clinical leadership to meet department needs.
Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
No experience required. 3 years of RN experience strongly preferred.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
