Assistant Project Scientist Engineer - Neuroscience - Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Department

The Carmena Group in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley welcomes applications for an Assistant Project Scientist to perform research in neural circuits in rodent animal models relevant to movement disorders.

Appointment length:
This is a twelve month, 100% time appointment with the possibility of extension being subject to performance and budgetary approval. Anticipated start: May 2021 or until the position is filled.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research related to the dissection of neural circuits in the mouse brain involving cortico-striatal networks during learning to operate a brain-machine interface.
  • Perform experiments in awake behaving mice using calcium imaging and electrophysiology methods.
  • Manage mice colony.
  • Help oversee research of undergraduates and graduate students.
  • Participate in lab meetings and give presentations at scientific conferences and workshops.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.

    Basic Qualifications (at the time of application):
  • PhD or equivalent international degree

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Neuroscience, Computer Sciences or related/relevant field
  • In depth experience with data acquisition, data management, and data analysis
  • Demonstrated creativity and highly developed problem solving skills
  • Superior academic performance and publication record
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and teamwork
  • Demonstrated proficiency with common data science tools (e.g., Pandas, Keras, and Tensorflow) and languages (Python preferred)
  • Experience with handling and conducting experiments in mice

    Salary:
    Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position provides full benefits.
