Nature of Work:

Teaches lecture and laboratory sections of introductory biology. Duties include preparing syllabus; taking and reporting roll; providing instruction of biology content consistent with learning outcomes of course; preparing the laboratory for student activities; managing students in lab; preparing and administering appropriate assessment instruments; grading student exams, lab notebooks and other assessments; reporting grades; handling student accommodations; responding to student questions and concerns; and addressing other classroom related issues as needed. Assures smooth operation of all assigned sections of introductory biology lab. Duties include monitoring inventory; ordering supplies; disposing of waste; making small repairs to equipment; making decisions to order and replace equipment; scheduling teaching assignments of graduate teaching assistants; training graduate assistants for teaching duties; managing graduate assistants in performance of laboratory teaching responsibilities; and ensuring all students are served. Ensures Biology Department complies with University and BOR requirements for control of departmental assets. Duties include working effectively with University inventory control deputy; keeping current with BOR and University policies regarding inventory; tracking departmental inventory assets, including, but not limited to, all equipment and instruments that carry a BOR inventory sticker; acting pro-actively with departmental personnel to ensure compliance with BOR and University policies regarding inventory; disposing of accountable inventory in accordance with University and BOR policies; and filing inventory reports as required. Ensures Biology Department compliance with University and BOR requirements related to safety and risk. Duties include working effectively with University Office of Safety and Risk management; addressing issues raised by University Safety and Risk Management; and assisting Biology faculty with safety issues in research and instructional laboratories.

Required Qualifications :

Bachelors degree and 18 hours of Graduate Level credits in Biology or related field required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in Biology or related field of study

Salary:

minimum $35,796 to midpoint $46,740

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Physical ability to prepare chemical solution, set up laboratory equipment, maintain a safe and effective work/laboratory environment, safely lift 25 lbs., and actively and effectively interact with students in a laboratory setting
