Work Schedule:

Times may vary depending on the shift which is assigned. Overtime is not available for this exempt position but extra hours are required with compensatory time. Regular hours are 3pm-11:30pm Mon. -Thursday and 1pm-9:30pm on Fridays during the semester. Regular hours during holidays and semester breaks is 11am -7:30pm Mon. -Friday. After hours and weekends are required on a rotation bases.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

To maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Primary Purpose of Position:

This is a working supervisory position within Facilities Management in the Building Services Department. This person will work with employees occasionally especially if short staffed, monitors, directs, trains, and delegates to a group of employees. This position will lead and train a large crew of (Custodian I, II, and Lead Custodians) and maintain many buildings on campus.

Job duties performed for the above function:

Supervisor that is involved with many buildings and a large staff of employees, by instructing/delegating/monitoring/training employees in performing the cleaning of the building. Following standards, timetables, performing quality assurance, the work accomplished timely, rerouting employees, delivering tools to the proper site, setting pace to meet the deadlines, arranging schedules around building needs. Assigning/explaining work orders, checking that they are completed properly and project management. This position is required to be a part of employee hiring committees. Conduct annual performance evaluations for Custodian, I, II, and Lead Custodians. Perform progress/disciplinary counseling sessions in accordance with University System of Georgia and Georgia College guidelines for relevant situations.

Ensure that Custodian I, II, and Lead are trained on all procedures, given schedules, proper use of chemicals explained, safety use of equipment and efficiency. Setting up and streamlining cleaning/routines to maintain areas of responsibility. Conducts daily quality audits of assigned areas to be reviewed with assigned employee.

Reports problems and needs. Monitoring the usage of supplies/equipment as needed for their area. Inventorying the supplies and equipment and reporting the use. Handling SDS/closet inspections. Able to receive & print work orders/instructions via computer / e-mail. Conduct frequent rounds and report custodial scheduling changes to building managers. Handling customer needs and service recovery via face -to-face or email.

Productivity, Quality, and Efficiency. Monitoring leave problems, any employee needs/request. Keeping notes/disciplinary situations handled. Ensuring a sense of Team Work or Total Quality Management, pride and enthusiasm exists within the assigned employee group. Keep open rapport and communication with the employees.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will be required to wash and dry rags, dust mops, and uniforms (that have been returned) in a commercial style washer and dryer.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

Associate degree in Business Administration. Excellent communication skills and understanding of critical thinking methods. The ability to use and train on custodial floor care equipment. 5 years of supervisory experience on a college campus, school, hospital, restaurant, or a large childcare facility.
