Job Description Summary   

Florida Polytechnic University invites applications for an Associate Professor or Professor with a partial administrative assignment as the Graduate Program Director. Faculty appointment must be in one of the participating graduate degree departments which are: Computer Science, Data Science and Business Analytics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The faculty appointment requires demonstrated teaching and research excellence that supports and aligns with the home department. The role of Graduate Program Director is to facilitate the growth of, promote excellence within the graduate program. This requires collaboration with Chairs with attention to admissions procedures and policies recruiting of graduate students, and chairing the graduate curriculum committee. Additional administrative responsibilities include creating monitoring processes to assure proper student progression in degrees, and creation of policies and practices that support the degree programs.

Florida Polytechnic University offers two Master of Science degrees, one in Engineering and the other in Computer Science. Within the MS in Engineering, the technical “tracks” are Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, and Robotics. Computer Science and Data Science are the two tracks available in the MS in Computer Science degree program. Degrees are offered with either a thesis or project option.

This position is part of a strategic expansion of the university faculty that will add approximately twenty-five faculty to the current approximate 65 faculty members in nine separate departments. A critical part of the expansion is to facilitate the growth and success of the graduate program.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to develop a highly successful teaching and research program, attract independent research funding, publish the results of their research studies in leading scientific journals of their discipline, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate level courses. In addition, the candidates are expected to demonstrate within their experience, activities that have contributed to a department, program, or the institution beyond the traditional teaching and research contributions of a faculty member.   

Job Description   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Six years of experience as a faculty member or as an independent, post terminal degree researcher.
  • Administrative experience to support the role and responsibilities of this position.

DESIRED / PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience with department level (or college level, institution level) policy and procedure development and execution.
  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum development, faculty governance, and/or program administration.
  • Curriculum development and significant teaching experience at all collegiate levels.
  • Funded research experience as a Principal Investigator.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify project opportunities and independently develop proposals that are subsequently funded.
  • Experience with students’ academic mentoring and as a thesis advisor.
  • Experience in program assessment and execution of a continuous improvement plan.
  • Active participation in professional activities and organizations.
  • Prior professional US experience with progressive responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse campus community.
