The Haven is a residential Modified Therapeutic Community, located on the Ft. Logan campus in Southwest Denver, where women can recover from the disease of addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders in a safe and confidential environment. The program utilizes therapeutic approaches to assist individuals in learning healthy coping skills, acquiring life skills, and changing unhealthy behaviors in order to become self –sufficient, confident, and productive members of society.  Treatment is also provided to pregnant and parenting mothers, allowing infants to reside with their mothers in treatment. Bonding and attachment is facilitated between mother and child and parenting groups focus on building positive parenting skills.

Because this position requires direct observation of females submitting specimens for urinalysis, pat downs of female clients, and nightly bed checks of female clients, being female has been determined to be a Bona Fide Occupational Qualification and only females will be considered for the position. 
Examples of Work Performed:

  • Observe, monitor, and intervene in drug/alcohol treatment through addressing client behaviors in the milieu
  • Assure compliance with program structure
  • Address gender specific issues in a trauma informed approach
  • Assist with crisis intervention related to mental health and trauma needs
  • Monitor and assist mothers with basic infant care when infant wakes in middle of the night
  • Ensure infant safe sleep practices are adhered to
  • Assist counselors with case management functions including those related to medical appointments, parenting, and Department of Human Services cases
  • Filing and auditing of charts, facilitate clients’ progress through treatment
  • Assure safety of staff and clients; design consequences for negative behaviors
  • Design consequences for negative behaviors
  • Instruct clients in the TC tools; support, monitor and document urine screens and BA screens
  • Monitor and document medication for clients
  • Perform routine inspections of residential premises both inside and out as well as conduct facility walk throughs/client counts, including client room and bed checks
  • Perform contraband searches, fire drills and safety inspections
  • Identify and respond to crisis and notify immediate supervisor/work leader of any unusual circumstances such as, unauthorized client absence, and violation of program rules
  • Transport clients off site as needed, attend staff meetings and individual and/or group supervision, and trainings
  • Direct observation and collection of female urinalysis samples
Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position begins at $26,700 and is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Substitution: College or university course work appropriate to the work assignment may substitute on a year for year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess a Certified Addiction Counselor I (CAC I) certification or higher
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, counseling psychology or a related field
  • Experience working in a substance use disorder treatment program with adult clients
  • Experience working with offender population
  • Experience using an Electronic Medical Record
Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn software programs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to comply with established rules, policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish boundaries with clients
Conditions of Employment: 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire
  • Must agree to fingerprinting and criminal background check. Required background checks include a review with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) AND the Central Registry of Child Protection (Trails). 
  • Subject to pre-employment, post-accident or incident or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per UCD Addiction Research and Treatment Services Department Policies.
