Scope of Job:
As a tenured/tenure-track faculty, the successful applicant will be expected to teach primarily in the graduate programs (MS and PhD) in Rehabilitation Counseling. Will also advise students, conduct original research, publish, serve on dissertation committees, pursue external funding, engage in community service, and be a contributing member to the School of Rehabilitation Services & Counseling and the University. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly work, student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions and are committed to UTRGV's strategic plan, vision, mission, values and core priorities. Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Professor. Requirements for an Assistant Professor are (1) an ABD in mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling, addictions, counselor education, educational assessment and evaluation, or a closely related field may be considered; the doctorate is required no later than the first day of the proposed start date; (2) a doctorate in addictions counseling, mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling, counselor education, educational assessment and evaluation, or a closely related field; (3) a minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in the field of mental health, rehabilitation counseling, addictions, or a closely related field with at least 2 years in direct client service; (4) evidence of the ability to conduct research and develop and implement a research agenda that includes scholarly activities such as authoring peer-reviewed publications and grant writing.

Associate Professor. Requirements for Associate Professor include, beyond those required above are (1) evidence of independently leading, conducting, and developing educational and research activities of a high quality to meet the institutional requirement for the rank of Associate Professor; (2) evidence of a high degree of teaching proficiency, a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals, and evidence of professional service; (3) the skills to seek and obtain external funds to conduct research projects, community projects, and support students. Applicants must meet the institutional criteria for tenure to be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor.

Professor: Requirements for Professor include, beyond those required above are (1) a doctorate in addictions counseling, mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or a closely related field and tenured or eligible for tenure; (2) strong evidence over academic career of independently leading, conducting, and developing research activities of a high quality to meet the institutional requirement for the rank of Professor; (3) evidence of a high degree of teaching proficiency, a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals, successful acquisition of external funding to support research, community projects, and student supports (4) and evidence of professional service. Applicants must meet the institutional criteria for tenure to be appointed at the rank of Professor.


Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Experience teaching post secondary courses in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, addictions, educational assessment and evaluation, or a closely related field. Certification or licensure as appropriate to the discipline.


Preferred Qualification:
Experience in teaching statistics and research methodology as well as guiding doctoral students in dissertations. Minor degree or advanced focus in statistics. Experience teaching with online formats. Experience with teaching in CACREP accredited program.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to
demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
