Department Description:The Division of Infectious Diseases conducts investigator initiated, industry funded, NIH funded AIDS prevention and treatment, sexually transmitted infections, other infectious diseases scientific and clinical research, and provides patient care at UNC -Chapel Hill and at sites throughout the world.
The ID Inpatient Studies Unit has a portfolio of studies to with the potential to improve outcomes for acute, life-threatening infections, including Candidemia, Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, and severe COVID-19 pneumonia. Trials may involve collaboration with investigators and coordinators from other divisions within the UNC School of Medicine, Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the NC Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute.

Position Description:THIS IS A TIME LIMITED POSITION, WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF ONE (1) YEAR.
The Nurse Clinical Research Coordinator will identify, recruit, and refer potential research participants. Duties include but are not limited to: assessing patients for study eligibility; conferring with patients, their legally authorized representatives, and their providers; obtaining informed consent; performing limited physical examinations; obtaining biological samples for research purposes; and entering data and resolving data discrepancies. This position is a professional member of the staff and as such is expected to work independently, adhere to all University, Acute/Cure Program, and profession-specific regulations as well as participate in unit-wide activities and exhibit a high degree of accountability for all work. This position may be called upon to participate in the hiring, training, and supervision of new staff. All team members are expected to participate in the Quality Assurance program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of experience in the area of specialization.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:This position requires the ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Instructions are given verbally and/or in writing.
Applicant must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with doctors, nurses, staff, and patients, and must be able to work well with people from diverse backgrounds, and to multi-task in a demanding and constantly changing environment.
Must have the ability to multitask and reorganize tasks according to shifting priorities.
Applicant must have the ability to maintain team, unit, and university goals while meeting or exceeding individual work goals and have the ability to meticulously perform all study-related functions while maintaining a high level of organization.
Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, email, and internet navigation skills required.
Bloodborne pathogen training required (will be provided).
CITI Program Research, Ethics, and Compliance Training required (will be provided).
The NC TraCS Institute New Coordinator Orientation Series required (will be provided).
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge and experience with medical terminology and prior experience working with patients and clinical trials are highly preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish verbal and written communication preferred.
Prior experience with Epic Electronic Health Record and/or Medidata Rave EDC preferred.
