Position Summary:

Web Developers at RENCI have a passion for front-end development with experience in core web development technologies (i.e., HTML, CSS, and JavaScript). These skills are combined with a desire for improving front- and back-end web development skills, a preference for open source software solutions, and a keen eye for detail and design.

Optimal candidates will have a working knowledge of at least one modern front-end JavaScript framework and also the ability to work with popular content management systems such as WordPress. Experience with front-end design frameworks (such as Bootstrap, Material Design, Foundation, and others) is a plus, as is experience with any additional programming languages, such as PHP and Python.

The successful candidate will have open source development experience and will enjoy contributing to best-of-breed solutions. This person will work in an agile development environment on web applications with other software developers and graphic designers throughout the organization to employ project management best practices.

Educational Requirements:

Master’s or Bachelor’s and 0-2 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required Skills
Fluency in front-end languages: HTML, CSS, and post ES6+ JavaScript—and some modern front-end frameworks and/or libraries.
A keen and creative eye for design and detail.
Excellent communication skills, interpersonal communication, human relations, and team building skills.

Candidates who also have these skills will be viewed favorably:
Familiarity with web accessibility guidelines
Comfort with building and bundling web applications with tools such as Webpack, Rollup, Parcel
Version control systems
Unit testing, integration testing
Modern UI and UX design and best practices
Curiosity and willingness to explore unknown technologies to solve problems
