Position Highlights:

The University of Arizona is in search of a Research Development Associate (RDA). The RDA in Research Development Services (RDS) has the primary responsibility of supporting faculty in pursuit of awards, recognitions, honors, & nominations, ultimately working with campus colleagues to advance institutional goals. These awards include those deemed "highly prestigious" by the National Research Council, as well as certain field-specific recognitions. The RDA should have demonstrated knowledge of these awards & a successful track record of developing, reviewing, and/or editing nomination letters & supporting applications. In addition, the RDA will support the limited submissions program as many of the currently identified award opportunities are institutionally limited.

The RDA should demonstrate interest in strategic planning & project team facilitation. This role requires a self-directed individual with excellent oral & written communication skills as well as a professional demeanor. This role demands that the individual be forward-thinking in anticipating award & funding opportunities, possess a collaborative approach with attitude for excellence, & creativity.

RDS was established in 2014 as part of the commitment of the University of Arizona's Research, Discovery & Innovation to provide research support for faculty. RDS is charged with engaging in strategic, proactive, catalytic, & capacity-building activities with University of Arizona researchers to attract increased extramural research funding. Since inception, RDS has supported more than $300 million in awards to faculty at the University of Arizona.

While the University of Arizona is currently in a remote-work situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is expected that the candidate be based in, or be willing to relocate to, Tucson, AZ.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as point person and resource for faculty related awards, honors, and nominations (honorifics) for achievements in research, scholarly, and creative activity
  • Develop full understanding of needs and goals of the UA research community related to support of aforementioned recognition
  • Receive invited opportunities submitted to RII, UA Provost’s Office, and UA President’s Office, and coordinate appropriately
  • Leverage institutional and college level efforts, including existing awards committees, for maximal impact and success
  • Identify, coordinate, and disseminate relevant opportunities
  • Provide strategic guidance for nomination packages such as competitive intelligence, scheduling of packet materials, and letters of support/nomination
  • Provide nomination development support including drafting, consolidation, technical and non-technical editing, and formatting
  • Coordinate, based on research expertise, with others on RDS team regarding nomination review, as needed
  • Provide regular reports related to dissemination and preparation of awards, recognitions, and honorifics
  • Support management of online nomination content, electronic submission programs, and review for internal pre-selection/limited submission (if necessary)
  • Coordinate with relevant campus colleagues including RII units, MarComms, Provost’s Office, and UA Foundation
  • Additional duties may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and three years of experience in research development-related activities OR
  • PhD and one year experience in research development-related activities
