The state of New York provided $60 million to establish a School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Binghamton University. The school, which enrolled its inaugural PharmD class in 2017, is now housed in a new, state-of-the-art, 105,000-square-foot building dedicated to research and education and located at the University's new Health Sciences Campus. The school's outstanding leaders in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences use contemporary medication management and innovative research to transform human health locally and globally. The research and clinically focused school is training the next generations of graduates to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered pharmaceutical care to diverse groups of patients, especially those who are in underserved rural and geriatric communities. Our new pharmacy simulations laboratory houses a hospital pharmacy with a 797-compliant sterile room, community pharmacy with a robotic dispenser, patient home setting, and 3 hospital rooms complete with electrocardiographic/respiratory/hemodynamic monitoring and high-fidelity mannequins. The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences obtained Candidate status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in June 2018. In the future, the PhD program under development will be renowned for its contributions to translational, clinical and outcomes research within the changing landscape of drug development, pharmacy practice and clinical science.
Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for a full-time, clinical track Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Experiential Co-Coordinator. This 12-month position offers an exciting opportunity to be a member of an innovative developing program. The candidate will have two roles, a traditional faculty role and an administrative role as an Experiential Co-Coordinator.
The School assists you in developing a research program through an individualized mentoring team and assistance of our own grant's office. The opportunity to collaborate with top faculty researchers in clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, health outcomes and administrative sciences, as well as transdisciplinary scientists across the Binghamton University campus will help propel your own research.
The candidate's practice site will be in Specialty Pharmacy, Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services, Northwell Health, New Hyde Park, NY. The candidate is expected to work with pharmacy staff at Northwell Health and assist with precepting pharmacy residents.
As the Experiential Co-Coordinator, the faculty member will assist the Director of Experiential Education and other experiential faculty/staff in managing and implementing programs, initiatives and processes to ensure a high-quality Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE/APPE) program that meets the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science's educational mission and vision and the ACPE standards. This includes ensuring a sufficient number of preceptors, or licensed pharmacists and other practitioners (as applicable), who satisfy the criteria for an adjunct faculty appointment, for the experiential program. Additionally, the Co-coordinator will perform other duties as assigned by Director of Experiential Education. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and a strong commitment to practice, scholarship and teaching.
The position requires business travel within the New York City area with occasional trips to Binghamton, NY for didactic teaching and faculty/administrative meetings.
Primary responsibilities are as the Experiential Co-Coordinator who will work collaboratively with the Office of Experiential Education (OEE) and report to the Director of Experiential Education:
- Recruit and develop IPPE/APPE sites downstate
- Responsible for implementing the pharmacy experiential program downstate in collaboration with the OEE
- Prepare and manage assignment of student IPPE/APPEs
- Co-coordinate and conduct student experiential orientation and continuing programming throughout the duration of the experience
- Provide mentorship to preceptors and pharmacists at practice sites;
- Serve as the Binghamton University liaison for our students and preceptors at Northwell Health;
- Conduct site visits and evaluate preceptor and student experiences to ensure quality
- Demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence in the provision of instruction and assessment of student learning outcomes in the experiential and didactic portions of the curriculum, as needed
- Provide clinical pharmacy service at Northwell Health in ambulatory care Specialty Pharmacy services, New Hyde Park, NY.
- Assist Vivo Health Pharmacy with compliance and maintenance of all specialty pharmacy accreditation requirements (e.g., URAC, ACHC).
The successful candidate must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or other advanced degree related to pharmacy education and residency or equivalent experience. Likewise, Pharmacist licensure or eligibility in the state of New York and experience precepting pharmacy students are required. Experience in academia and experiential program administration within a pharmacy school is preferred but not required.
