Job Description:

• Serve as a resource for Learning Community Seminar instructors, faculty advisors and faculty participating in our departmental advising model; assist and or facilitate group advising, educational planning and career exploration activities.
• Utilizing a success-coaching model based on best practices, provide an array of traditional student support services including enrollment, financial aid, academic career/vocational and transfer advising.
• Administer and interpret academic, personal and career/Vocational assessments, to identify the strengths and weaknesses of new students in regards to their entry-level basic skills and motivation.
• Assist students in developing short term and long term academic, career and life plans; review alignments of career and educational goals with student interests, skills and personal financial requirements.
• Assist students in creating a personalized educational plan utilizing electronic resources and with matching the student with a Learning Community relevant to prior experience, skill set and future goals.
• Assist with the advisement and registration of all new and continuing students regarding their academic plan, course selection/sequencing, curriculum/concentration selection and changes, career exploration and plans to transition to a 4-year institution.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement academic, career, and transfer advising across the curriculum; assisting with the design and/or facilitation of related classroom presentations.
• Collaborate with the Student Activities Office and Peer Mentors on our comprehensive new student advising and orientation process; developing and facilitating advising related orientation sessions and coordinating the registration process for new students.
• Collaborate with Boston Public High Schools and Community Based Organizations to provide a smooth transition and ongoing support for recent BPS graduates attending the College.
• Assist in the hiring, training and supervision of graduate interns, peer advisors and work-study students.
• Provide assistance and support for special student programming related to student persistence, retention, and completion; monitor and provide support to students who are on academic probation.

Requirements:

• Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or a closely related field; with three (3) years of experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Experience working with students in a student services/client services or equivalent setting
• Proficiency in student information systems and technology as well as MS Word and Excel.
• Excellent, demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
• Demonstrate and possess a strong understanding of cultural competency, and how to communicate effectively to different audiences.
• Ability to work 2 evenings per week (Start time - 6pm).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with TRIO community college students

Additional Information:

Salary: $29.44/hr. @ 16/hrs/wk (not to exceed 18.50 hours per week) non-benefited, grant-funded
