The primary objective of the College Police Department is to develop and direct a comprehensive program of law enforcement to provide the highest level of safety, security and service for the campus community as they pursue their daily work and study activities, consistent with the laws of the Commonwealth.

This position is responsible for performing a variety of communications and operational tasks in support of public safety, law enforcement, and security operations linking those in need of assistance to those who render assistance.

- Successful completion of the written telecommunicator assessment
- 18 years of age
- No criminal record
- Must be a United States citizen or have been a lawful resident of the United States for the past 10 consecutive years
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of a thorough background investigation

- Prior public safety dispatching/call taker experience
- VA Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Communications Officer certification
- VCIN/NCIC Level A Operator certification
- APCO Telecommunicator I certification and/or other APCO certifications

- Ability to successfully complete initial DCJS approved dispatcher/communications training
- Ability to successfully complete departmental field training
- Ability to acquire and maintain NCIC/VCIN Level A operator certification
- Ability to successfully complete department required or DCJS required in-service training
- Ability to follow instructions and perform with minimum supervision
- Ability to understand and speak English clearly
- Excellent oral (no speech limitations) and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task various job functions
- Ability to handle stress under emergency situations
- Good computer skills
- Ability to type 30-35 words per minute
- Possess a good geographical knowledge of the six NVCC campuses including surrounding roadways

The selected candidate’s offer is contingent upon the successful completion of an extensive criminal background
investigation, which may include: fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, verification of
education, credit checks (relevant to employment), and other checks requested by the VCCS and NOVA such as
